Say Goodbye to Dark Circles

eyes4.jpgIf dark circles seem to stick around no matter what you try, it’s time to check out some new solutions. Read on for honest information on why they occur, and what you can do to stop them. You can try one strategy or try them all till you find the one that works for you!

under-eye.jpgStrategy 1: Invest in Vitamin K eye cream. Many dermatologists credit dark circles to pooled blood underneath the thin skin of the eye area. Vitamin K has been shown to help with bruising, so manufacturers such as Murad have begun to add it to their undereye creams.

Strategy 2: Try sunscreen. Since the sun can alter the pigment in the skin, causing it to darken (think suntan), eye creams with sunscreen can halt this pigment-deepening process.

Strategy 3: Step up sleep. The connection between too little sleep and dark circles is a loose one, but some surmise that lack of sleep causes the skin to look pale, making dark circles more prominent. Aim for seven to eight hours and note any changes in your circles.

Strategy 4: Cover with concealer. To do it the right way, choose a concealer that matches your skin tone or is one shade lighter. Don’t go for a concealer that’s substantially lighter or different in tone than the rest of your skin; it will look obvious and cause your circles to appear grayish or pinkish.

Pat your concealer onto the dark circles. Apply sparingly — a little will give substantial coverage. Now use your ring finger to pat the concealer into your skin. Rubbing will simply remove it. Once it has been blended, check your results in the mirror.

Need more coverage? Repeat the application. When you have the coverage you desire, use a cotton ball or powder puff to apply translucent powder over the concealer. Whisk away excess with a fluffy powder brush.
